Abdulnasser Gharem website

The brief:

An online presence to house and reflect the work of pioneering conceptual artist – and lieutenant colonel in the Saudi Arabian Army – Abdulnasser Gharem.

Abdulnasser Gharem is both a serving lieutenant colonel in the Saudi Arabian army and a conceptual artist with work in the collections of the British Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. We had the pleasure of getting to know Abdulnassur during the Edge of Arabia exhibition in the Brunei gallery in September 08.

Our task was to give the artist an online presence that both housed and evoked the daring, integrity and raw honesty of his work.

The project:

Rather than just duplicating his artwork on the home page, we felt it would be more interesting to make graphic representations of key elements and symbols from his projects such as ‘The Path’, and  ‘No More Tears’. This involved interesting typographic experiments blending English characters with Arabic script using the actual stamps used in the artworks.
