HarperCollins Kensington Palace

The HarperCollins summer party is attended by top authors and industry professionals from the literary world, and for the second year running we were asked to design the invitation to this prestigious event.

We worked with HarperCollins to create a high end piece worthy of this prestigious event held in Kensington Palace, in honour of authors published in 2011. Our brief was to produce a sleek, sophisticated piece that celebrated the beautiful gardens at Kensington Palace in an understated and contemporary way.

As the centre piece for the design we created a simplified, graphic peony flower, produced simply as an emboss to the bespoke pocket and deboss to the inner single card insert. To balance the femininity of the flower and crisp white material, we chose factory yellow Colorplan to inject a contemporary edge and made the insert from triplex card, creating a weighty board from 3 layers of material.

We followed the design created for the invite through to entry ID badges and display in the form of cut vinyl graphics.

“There is a definite trend in the technological age where stationery has a new luxury status. It's not just a utilitarian item now. There's an emotional connection. Whereas you could send off an email, the old-fashioned invite is more special…Impressive examples slipping through London letterboxes…the sleek white, unbendable kind such as Victoria Barnsley's for a HarperCollins party.”
